Undoubtedly, a pub that doubles as a wonderful birthday dinner or group get-together venue.

Upon phoning to make the booking (recommended) for my mother's birthday dinner, I was asked if I wanted a table near the fire. "Not too close" was my response, but to my disappointment, our table was situated right in front of the raging fire. That said, after placing some of the cold blooded guests on the fire side of the table, everyone was happy!

We were offered an a la Carte menu that at first glance, boasted plenty of variety and a wine list to match. Also available are: finger food, set menu (1, 2, 3 course) or Christmas menu. At the Flying Duck, it would appear that all budgets are catered for: starting at $15 per person for finger food.

I went for the char grilled eye fillet was served with mushroom risotto ($26.50). While this may have appeared somewhat expensive for a pub meal, such thoughts quickly vanished when this work of art and total perfection arrived! This eye fillet was the most mouth watering, delicious meal I have ever tasted, regardless of the price.

To complement the meal, we ordered a side serve of creamy mash and Asian stir fried veggies, which while at $7.50 bump up the price somewhat, the side servings are, like the mains, worth it.

Other guests were similarly won over, as they raved about their calamari ($16.50) with "magnificent" home made tar tare sauce.

But you have to be fortunate to know about this wonderful gem of a place to experience its warm, friendly ambience and delectable dishes. One of the (many) positive features of this pub is that you can go there and feel comfortable all year round. The service was faultless and to top it off, the staff even provided a serve of Tiramisu with a sparkler for Mum's birthday.

A top class venue that is worthy of high recommendation, and one to which I will definately return.
