When a Japanese place serves bad fish on a sushi plate, it's courting disaster.

After some delightful gyoza and clams, the sushi platter arrived - when it was obvious that some of the fish was not fresh, and some of it literally 'off,' I politely requested, 'I think we will have to have a different dish -we can't eat this'. The response from the proprietors was a theatrical event of 'Monty Python' proportions. I am embarrassed that I ever recommended this place. All recommendations withdrawn. Kagurazaka at your peril!

I have been twice now and each time been impressed with the service and quality / taste of the food.

It's nice to be seated at the table and then be handed a hot steamy towel and the traditional japanese pickle. We had pickled bean sprouts which were unusual but nice.

The entrees are a good size - a whole page to choose from! I especially liked the tempura - nice and crisp and the dipping sauce was lovely. The staff are happy to let you know if you have ordered too little or too much.

I am yet to try any of the sushi or sashimi - but saw it being taken to other tables and it looked good (!)

My recommendation would be to try the suki yaki - they cook this at the table for you on a gas burner and it's fun to watch. It consists of thinly sliced beef, a couple of varities of mushroom, tofu, chinese / japanese cabbage and udon noodles with a lovely teriyaki inspired sauce.

It costs $23 and this is enough for two people - but they can basically cook as many portions as you require.

The menu has many pages and there is so much choice! It's nice as it leaves you wanting to come back again to try another one of the dishes that you couldn't order last time. The prices were reasonable which is always nice.

The staff (that i saw) were all japanese and you really feel like it's a family owned business. if you ring up to book and your party is 5 or less people - they offer you the traditional japanese tables where you can sit / kneel on the tatami mats.

I would happily go back again ...

After respectfully removing our shoes & seating ourselves on cushions at our table (a 'void' beneath the table allows for comfortable foot dangling), we were happy that the experience had already offered us more than we had expected. The waitresses were genuinely happy to be there, they were traditionally dressed in Kimonos and had beautiful smiles that never wavered! We chose the $45 banquet so that we'd get a taste of what they considered to be their best. We weren't dissapointed. The highlight of the meal was the 'Sakitori' , cooked at our table by one of the waitresses. My personal favourite was the 'Chawanmushi', a custard seafood soup that felt like a little doona on my tongue! We'll definitely be back, too many things on the extensive menu to be taste tested!
