Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by b47tbaumSubmitted November, 2007 Scusami is located on the mid-level of the Southbank complex. Many tables overlook the Yarra and some are hidden behind pillars. One is next to the cutlery side bar. The decor does not do justice to the food or service, which are both top.
Our waiter of the evening was excellent and attentive. The assistant servers did well. The only relative downer was having to finally signal for the bill (at Scusami the bills do come to the tables - this is not a cafe/restaurant)
We started with the Parmigiano appetiser. Aged cheese, bread sticks, and a reduction. Excellent.
Starter was a Carpaccio di Manzo (beef). Excellent.
Mains included Scallopini di vitello ai funghi dressed with artichoke and asparagus- absolutely superb, and the agnello (thick and wonderful lamb chops) dressed with spinach and beans was excellent although it was somewhat light on the spinach and heavy on the beans. Both came with excellent roast potato. A side salad including pear was excellent.
Sweets - cioccolatissimo - 4 chocolate assortment - from to die for to excellent
capuccino - no worries
The wine list has depth, but it starts at a relatively high price point. We punted on an Italian Feudi di San Gregorio agianico/primitivo blend that was low end at $87 - excellent!
Is there a message? Yes. Scusami is an excellent dine somewhat let down by decor unworthy of the staff and kitchen. Not at all shabby, but expect to spend at least $125 (and easily more) a head for dinner, and for that one can be somewhat picky. Note I rated value excellent - on the basis of the food and service the prices are just fine.
Book early. Scusami is Busy. There is a reason.
