Member Review by Owen ProudfootSubmitted September, 2006 I thoroughly agree with the previous ('Pip's) review; despite being situated in the 'crown-casino' complex, this place is not the least bit tacky, and has a great atmosphere. The staff are extremely courteous and efficient, and the prices are not 'off the wall', in fact they're very reasonable for the quality of atmosphere, service and food that is provided. I've just been the once, didn't need the tepinyaki service so just went for a quiet table for 2. Tables are nicely spaced from each other, so that made things comfortable for us from the start. The lighting and music they employ are both 'subtle', so that was good too. The food was excellent; I had the sashimi as I always do in Jap' restaurants (it's a great indicator of the ingredients-selection/ prep' skills of the chef), partner had a fungi-soup and a noodles dish which were also top-class. I was very impressed with the service; highly efficient and polite without ever seeming 'overbearing'. We declined tea/ coffee or dessert, but sat there chatting for about 45 minutes after that; during this time they bought us some complimentary little 'gourmet-fruit-lolly' type thingies (very yummy), with not the least bit of a hint that they were trying to move us on out of there... overall, the experience was fantastic, and while the price on each main course is in the upper range, it's entirely worth it and I'd recommend this joint to anyone. Lastly, I recently booked a table there and had to cancel at the last minute (a couple of hours before); rather than sounding annoyed or anything, they very politely thanked me for my call, and hoped I'd book again sometime soon. All round a very professional operation, highly recommended. Member Review by pipSubmitted December, 2005 Koko is a place to go when you have a special occasion.
As soon as you walk in - the decor and furnishings say it all. In the centre of the restaurant there is a japanese water feature - that has stepping stones in it to cross to the other side of the room. The tables are well balanced and far enough away from the next to enjoy your conversation.
I have been there three times now for Tempanyaki where they grill all the food in front of you. There is a good range of choice when choosing what you would like to dine on. My favourites - prawns, duck and the mushrooms.
Of course - you can also order a la carte as well. I have never had dessert as have found have always felt full when dessert time has rolled around.
The service is wonderfully efficient and the wait staff all know about their foods / produce - so asking for a recommendation is no problem. The prices aren't cheap - but well worth every dollar you end up paying.
There are also private rooms that have tempanyaki grills as well.
A must to try for that special occasion ...
