100% Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by John TimsonSubmitted February, 2007 The quality of food in this venue really is its saving grace. You walk into this venue and it really does look smart with fantastic décor and the entire female staff-wearing kimonos. Beautiful views of the city from the balcony and the Tepanyaki sections really do add theatre to the restaurant.
Unfortunately the service is no competition for the location or decor. I am still amazed that a Miso soup and a Chicken salad can take 50 minutes to be served! Moreover that when we asked about the delay we were told, “the balcony was a lower priority to the main area but the meals were on the way”. It took a further enquiry with the Manager on duty and the entrees were delivered after a further 10 minutes.
The Miso first and then ten minutes later my salad. I appreciate that Valentines is a busy day however courtesy does not take long nor should it depend on who a guests is or how busy the Restaurant is. The Manager on duty was arrogant and unprofessional. If he had of been able to respond to the enquiry, explain the delay and apologize for the wait then I would have been more inclined to give them a second chance. Instead we were ignored and on paying the bill told he “had issues with his cold larder but that was his problem”. Actually I would say it was ours! “We” were the ones that waited an hour for entrees, “We” poured our own wine and “We” paid the full rate of $120.00 for the privilege of being ignored and fobbed off.
Melbourne has a reputation for having great restaurants and world-class service. I don’t see given this experience that Miyoko provided on the evening that in good faith I could recommend it. In fact I could not even suggest it as one of the better restaurants in Southgate. In the end the choice is yours however I would suggest there are a lot of other venues that value paying guests more.
