When we arrived, the atmosphere seemed relatively unremarkable for a Saturday night. The menu was mediocre and did not have too much variety. But the food arrived quite promptly, was well presented and tasted good.
Prior to coming, my friend had purchased an ice cream cake from another store. We were extremely surprised when we were told, AFTER our meal, that there would be an additional $30 fee for the extra use of 'cutlery, plates, and sparklers'. In the end, we decided against eating the cake at Medici's.
However, what truly ruined the night were the terrible attitudes of our waitress and manager. The waitress was patronising, impatient and unfriendly while taking our orders, and gave off the impression that she had better things to do. After the meal, an incident occurred where a waiter slipped and fell while returning the cake, which crashed onto the floor. When my friend asked for money to cover the damage to the cake, the manager started abusing her as 'ridiculous'. He then angrily told her that she had no right to ask for compensation and that he had done her a favour by not charging her for the space taken up by the cake in their freezer. Only the poor waiter offered to pay for the cake, which was very kind and honourable of him, but was upbraided by his manager.
Needless to say, the appalling way the manager treated his customers would deter any of us from ever going back again. Member Review by DennisSubmitted May, 2005 My girlfriend, Danya and I went to Docklands last Friday 29 April 2005. We had heard good things about Medici but were quite disappointed with the food.
The Chicken Parmigiana was quite expensive, yet quite small and tasted as though it had been reheated or cooked earlier in the day. The steak also was a bit disappointing with quite weak flavours. The ambience of the restaurant was good with a lot of noise and customers, but we felt the concrete could have at least been hidden a little.
I believe they could do better with either improving the food quality or lowering the prices to reflect the quality. The staff were quite friendly and having quite a good view of the city, they have the potential to do very well.
