Essenza has a modern look, but is somewhat stark as there are no decorations on the walls beyond some interesting pseudo stucco paint treatment. Being fully licensed they do not accept BYO, which is rare (and hence surprising) in Lower Plenty and vicinity. Wine prices are reasonable but choices are limited.

There is a brekkie menu, cafe menu, and dinner menu. We stopped for dinner. In addition to the menu there was a selection of set price 2 or 3 course choices that were well priced.

From the set choices, the first few bites of a calamari entree were nice, but the salt soon caught up. The chicken wrapped with prosciutto & cheese was slightly dry and the prosciutto perhaps a bit overcooked. A steak (off the menu) was tasty, but a bit dear for what was offered.

In all cases the potatoes and accompaniments were pretty good.

Service was good. Normal cards, etc.

The cafe is still relatively new. One wanted to like it, but there are nits and many good competitors in the area. Except for the lack of BYO we would probably return now and then.
