Member Review by Guy MartinSubmitted October, 2009 Friends kept telling me about Joe's and how fantastic it is, so I eventually decided to go and see for myself. Greasy, it ain't, but food I ordered was still quite good. Standing out from my plate were the skin-on potato wedges. Crisp, hot, and wonderfully tasty. The burger was the main reason for my visit though, so I ordered the flagship "Manhattan". If it takes two hands to handle a Whopper, then this burger would have needed at least four. 12 ounces of prime Victorian beef, melted cheese, charred onion, seeded mustard, on a seseme-seed-less bun. There is no way known that you can eat this burger with your hands. When I finally managed to recover from the initial appearance of this towering, multi-layered gastronomic work, it was down to business and the attempt to eat it. This is where Joe's let me down a bit. While the burger was edible, it suffered from being a little too long on the grill. The onions were almost black, and the beef patties were a little on the tough side. At $14.50 for the burger, I expected a little more attention to detail. Service also suffered a bit, as while they were friendly enough, it took about 10 minutes to find an ashtray for me and was presented with an apology of absent-mindedness.
Yes, it was late on a Saturday; Yes, I came just before the kitchen closed, but all that considered, I was a little disappointed overall. Maybe worth a revisit during the day.
