Member Review by Submitted May, 2009 Ginger Garlic is a moderately small venue inside, with some outside tables and gas heaters. The food is atypical Indian with daily themes throughout the week. The food is simply excellent. Liquor is BYO only - no license. Bookings are mandatory. It is usually busy. Typical cards welcome. No sense dwelling on this aspect because they are a 10 out of 10 for food. You can also order take-away.
We had brilliant tomato soup; an exceptionally tasty chicken starter; prawns and lamb shank with pullao rice, raita, and garlic nan for mains. Each had appropriate sauces - simply excellent without a single nit being possible.
The service was prompt and friendly.
During ordering we were advised there is a minimum per person dine - we were obliged to order two mains instead of 1 to share, and we over-ordered - post dinner we discovered it is a reasonable $20 per person.
Major gripe - the carpet is sticky and seriously needs a steam clean. Medium gripe, the tables are jammed-in; you will have a similar sensory experience to your neighbouring tables. Since the aromas are generally wonderful it is not a problem excepting smoke from sizzling platters can become overwhelming. The sliding entry door is a mixed blessing. It vents the brilliant smells and sizzling platter smoke, but on a cool day it is on/off drafty, and there is constant traffic coming and going.
If you want brilliant Indian this is a must try establishment -- if you don't mind sticky carpet and crammed tables.
