Hearty italian dishes with real finesse - fish, vegetables and salads are always brilliantly fresh and clean, while some of the meat offerings are more authentically Italian than what you get at a lot of places that claim 'Italian' in their name. There is real style to this food- I'm a great fan of the 'lasagne with suckling pork and pesto' that's been a stayer on the menu.
Breakfast is popular, and theirs is one of the best coffees in Melbourne. Our dinner forays have been successful also... but they do sometimes close a little early if everyon has left. The staff are on the ball, friendly and attentive.
The choice of wine is excellent and varied, drawing on Australian and Italian sources. If doing lunch, be sure to book- it's a small dining area and it gets full most days. All round, well recommended. Historical Review by GarySubmitted November, 2008 Benito's is great for any meal. Breakfast is popular, and this might be the best coffee in Melbourne. Our dinner forays have successful also as the management seems to have made a real commitment to Benito's being an evening venue, as well as a daytime one. the staff are always on the ball, friendly and attentive.

Best coffee in melbourne, period. But note that it is strong.
I love the portugese tartlets although there is much more on offer. Very popular with the locals in the area. So much so that you may only get a stool near the bar when it's busy. If you plan to have lunch you should book.
They also own a sister cafe in degraves street, I forget the name, which has coffee of the same standard. Ask at Benito's and I'm sure they'll tell you.
Highly recommended.

Breakfast is popular, and this might be the best coffee in Melbourne. Our dinner forays have not been as suuccessful as lunch as the staff and patrons have been known to show signs of 'fatigue.' Service is usually very good but it can get patchy when the numbers rise. So for a meal, lunch is the best shot.
