The best steak I have eaten in a very long time however the service was disappointing. If a restaurant is going to do the slightly pretentious thing of keeping your wine bottle at the bar rather than on the table, then the least your waitor can do is keep your glasses topped up. After the main course another waitress cleared our wine glasses. Our waitor then had to bring us two new glasses so we could finish our wine. We were left for about 20 mins without dessert menus and in the end we went up to the bar to order coffee.

In defence of my waitor, he told me they had limoncello which turned out to be wrong. I sulked and he went over to Termini to get me one! For the money I don't think I'd go back, just because the service doesn't match up to the food.

The Melbourne Wine Room has a fancy name, elaborate menu and extensive
wine list but the service and surroundings arguably left a little to be desired. Our table
was positioned in the "Atrium" section of the restaurant, situated
between the main dining room and pub section known as The George. I
found it to be a great atmosphere for social drinks at a casual level in the bar,
and a classy ambience in the restaurant. Unexpectedly however, I was a little
disappointed in the overall standard of service in the restaurant. Our waiter
appeared decidedly bored with his evening and unenthusiastic in
response to even our simple requests, such as wanting to stop our tiny table from
wobbling due to the uneven tiled floor. The food was presented beautifully,
the Scotch fillet ($46.00 - to be shared
between two) was tasty, although perhaps cooked a little dry. Side dishes of vegetables or mash were $6.50 and reasonably
small serves. A main course of sausages was sent back by a friend, who
claims they were lacking in taste for $18.50. We were however favourably bowled over
by the wine list which was categorised by country/region, including many
from NZ, rather than just the usual long list from Margaret River. The Giesen
Sauvignon Blanc was $35.00 a bottle, and well worth it. Overall a slightly
disappointing dining experience and quite noisy, but a very social atmosphere
all the same.
