Sacrilege.(n) the injurious treatment of a sacred object. I was a little stunned that none of the foodgod disciples had yet reviewed this food mecca, but hope that my offering may make amends.
Di Stasios is a very special restaurant, yet I suspect it is one you either get and love, or don't. The food is the feature. Simple, Italian, classic, flavoursome dishes with everything in proportion. The service is almost theatrical - so very Northern Italian - although i know their attitude hasn't always pleased all who have crossed their threshold. Their knowledge of the menu and wine list is impressive. The atmosphere is great - dark moody edgey - and offering the promise of a bit of celebrity spotting on many nights.

The pasta with potato and beans is flawless. My partner again experiences food envy/confusion and can't decide to eat his own dish or mine. The traditional veal and sage marriage for main was like heaven. Melt in your mouth soft with perfect balance of butter, wine and herbs.

Crespelle di limone for dessert arrive as super-thin crepes rolled into tight cigars. They have been caramelised to a warm brown in the pan, served with buttery lemon sauce and lemon pieces. For $15.50 I would have choked if they weren't, on this night, equal to the best ever pancakes i have experienced in Vienna. But they were. The coffee was excellent, as it should be at $4.50 a cup. The prices make this a special occassion place only unless you indulge in the 2 courses plus wine lunch offer for $25.00 7 days a week.
