100% Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by GarySubmitted March, 2010 Our favourite Melbourne Chinese, Bamboo House is a winner. Both regional and Cantonese dishes combined with service and style make Bamboo House one of the great 'stayers' on the Chinese food scene in Melbourne. The food is exquisite, prepared with top quality ingredients. The wine list is excellent for an Asian place - and far more reasonably priced than Bamboo House's peers for food. The service standards vary a little but do not let you down - however if you are planning a leisurely dinner, it is wise to let them know.
Cold appetisers in the Northern Chinese mode are great, as are some of the more standard offerings. We go for the drunken chicken and loin of pork for entrees. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared, and this is one place where I can order steamed duck - it's well defatted and delicately cooked, served with fresh vegetables.
Good coffee for an Asian place also... and at the end of a big meal an espresso with a choice from Bamboo House's substantial bar goes down well.
Suited to a special night out, with quality tableware and tablecloths. And what helps is that it's not overly expensive considering the quality.

The wine list is good for an Asian place, and the service standards have maintained the high level they have had for the decades they have been there.
