It is a comfortable Vietnamese restaurant aiming at the gourmet end but with low prices. For around $35.00 a head we had a pleasant and large entr?e and main each, with a beer or two thrown in. This included a mountain of duck for under $20.00. The duck was perfectly cooked, with only the thinnest layer of fat left to add flavour, and an unusual crisp nutty skin that felt like it had been briefly deep fried, but did not taste of this. The sauce was unsophisticated for such a nice dish, resulting in a slight monotony at the end. If you can eat that much duck.
My entr?e was quayle, which was very nice, but a scrap over cooked.
While it was not overcrowded or over noisy (not romantic either) I was sitting opposite the wall heater and was more cooked than the quayle by the end of the night.
We did not try the signature dish of red rice, but it looked interesting and we will next time.
Service was friendly and enthusiastic, if a little clumsy. I know that if you upend a beer into a glass it will foam onto the table, and did not need a practical demonstration.
Perfect for a bargain dinner with your mates, but a bit shabby for a first date.
