100% Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by BBGSubmitted June, 2007 Tsindos is among the numerous Greek restaurants on Lonsdale. It is tidy with white tablecloths and has a relatively quiet ambiance that encourages talking to your dinner companions.
They are BYO (wine only) - welcome in the city. The licensed wine list is posted on their web site, as is the full menu. There were numerous specials on the boards. We brought along a zinfandel - the $4 corkage is reasonable.
Service was pleasant and capable with the times between ordering and delivery to be about perfect for a leisurely Friday dinner. Arrival to departure was just under 2 hours from arrival to coffees.
Our party of two had saganaki and grilled octopus entrees. Both were very good quality and nicely prepared. For mains I had the Tsindos Special - recommended - 2 lamb skewers, 2 chicken skewers, 3 prawns, on rice, with a Greek bean and peas veggie accompaniment. My partner had bugs from the specials menu - a largish tail with salad; she reported it to be excellent and just the right amount. For sweets a creme caramel and a tartufo. Both were very good. The tartufo was not the normal mass produced variety most common, and was worthy of the slightly higher pricing. The coffees did not let down, either.
Tsindos history indicates they have been in business since 1970, starting on Russell St. We tried them because any restaurant in Melbourne with a 37 year history has to have something going for it. It is solid, good food, and worthy of anyone's patronage. Bookings are highly recommended as they were justifiably busy.
