Member Review by DhiSubmitted September, 2007 Those of us who have seen the splendours to India will vouch for the highway restaurants (Dhabas) and the freshness of taste they represent. Those same people will also agree that Tandoori Times owner Amit has done an excellent job of touring the country to bring what has to be the most distinctive and largest selection of dishes on the one menu!
When we recently moved to Yarraville the one thing I noticed was the lack of a good Indian restaurant. So I was quite excited about Tandoori Times opening in the hub of Yarraville. When we walked in without a reservation on the opening weekend we were warmly welcomed by Amit and seated by the glass windows by the Tandoor. I must say that I am always pleased to see an Indian restaurant where the Tandoor is visible and patrons can appreciate the skill that goes into preparing Tandoori food. On the wall above was a projector playing a bollywood movie which may have been out of place for a restaurant setting, but for me it added to the Indian flavour! We ordered all vegetarian dishes and were pleased with all offerings. Apart from some minor issues (including delay with our wine, a dish with excess oil, and no eftpos) our overall experience on the night was great.
We have had plenty of meals from Tandoori Times since and the place has defintely grown on us. The best thing about this restaurant in my opinion is the variety of dishes and flavours that remind one of some place back in India. While all the regular dishes are available on the menu, I would suggest trying something new, if for no other reason then simply because there is so much to try. The selection for vegetarians is quite generous too.
Recommended dishes: Dal ala Tandoori Times ($9.95); Tandoori Times Tava Treats ($11.50); and the Paneer Bhurji ($9.95) which is just sensational and a favourite (of what I have tasted so far)!
