100% Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by GarySubmitted March, 2007 A pretty ordinary Thai place that's showing its age, Patee Thai offers food that is okay with service that doesn't make it. There are dozens of Thai places within a few kilometres of Patee Thai and so the competition will pay its toll on this also-ran over time.
Our last visit had me close to sending a dish back because the spring onions had not been properly washed- once I faced up to the communication difficulties and the relative isolation of the onion-encased grit, the decision was made to carry on while avoiding the offending vegetable. A mistake by the person taking our order meant that one dish didn't arrive. Plates were left on the table indefinitely and attention was hard to summons.
Patee Thai is not as busy as it used to be, and I am not surprised. Maybe they do a lot of home deliveries these days. Historical Review by GarySubmitted April, 2006 Patee Thai stands out in the crowd. There are dozens of Thai places within a few kilometres of Patee Thai and this is our preference... they do hearty, fresh food with flair and provide excellent service and timing.
We could eat their satay all night... and the red duck curry has definition: you can still taste the duck, and the curry isn't overwhelmed by coconut, the spices really work. Stir-fries are delightfully clean on the palate, and a delightful range of desserts can see out the night. Seafood is handled well. Value for money is excellent, with mains in the $12 - 17 range. The drinks and wine list is fine, again at reasonable prices, and it's also BYO wine.
The two dining rooms offer a choice of conventional western seating or divan-style thai seating. If you have a seating preference it's best to book in your request, which is wise anyway because Patee Thai is frequently packed with eager diners.
A recommendation from a regular- we love this place! Reviews are opinions of the author and do not represent the views of FoodGod Victoria, Neolux Communications, or its employees, contractors or supporters. If you have any queries, please contact us.
