Treviso is an institution in Bank Place, whether it be for a single person, or large team lunches. I've worked in Queen Street for four and a half years and those guys are the team lunch/big group specialists! I've been there for work lunches more times than I can count in groups of up to 40 - they have a pre-ordering system through their website and if you specify that you're all arriving at 12:15 and want your food on the table at 12:26 they actually do it! They take their customers time constraints seriously.

The food is great. Lots of rustic hearty Italian dishes, great salads, and if you're feeling a bit adventurous their specials are really special. They always have a fish or seafood special which are amazingly fresh because they are such a big and busy place (they often have to cross them off the boards because they sell out). I had a fantastic whole Baby Snapper which was served with a lemon butter sauce and a salad of radicchio and caramelised onion just before Christmas that was $25.90. One of the good things here as well is that they serve the meals with sides included - no having to pay extra for potatoes or greens. Their veal dishes and steaks are top notch as well. Try the Veal Piccantina with white wine, fresh chilli and lemon juice.

The other areas I can recommend are the risotto and the wine list. I had a prawn & pea with whole grilled Moreton Bay Bug risotto that was outstanding. Their mushroom risotto features porcini, field mushrooms and white truffle oil and it is sublime. The wine list is large and really keenly priced (starts at about $18 and goes through to just over $100, with the bulk of the list in the 20's 30's and 40's) and is all Australian/Kiwi. The wine specials are well worth watching, we had a 2002 Bowen Estate Cab. Sauv. for $29.50 which is ridiculously good value.

A couple of shortcomings I've noticed are the use of the locally produced parmesan instead of the Italian, even though they have the Italian Grana Padano in house because they serve it shaved on some of their specials. Also there are a couple of tables near speakers which can get a little loud - they'll turn them down if you ask of course.

Warm, knowledgable service and consistently great food - oh and most days of the week there's a chance you'll be sitting on a table next to John Elliot and Sam Kekovich - which believe me is an experience in itself.
