To all those whom are interested in having a quirky, fun time at an eclectic cafe/bar/restaurant, go for it, i can't speak any more highly of the food, service & atmosphere!
Check out the Risotto, it's a must, i can't stop ordering it... Don't do the Chocolate Spring rolls unless you want to be rolling out the door yourself - they are Amazing!!!! :)
Check out the 'Oscar'!!! Oh and if you time it well like i have, you might just see a few celebs here and there................. I got a thrill, you may too! Member Review by bnicolosiSubmitted July, 2007 Been going to Wild Oscar's for about a year now and always thought it was great, but in the last few months have noticed a real difference ( and its a good one).
Dined there Saturday night and the place was absolutely packed and buzzin. New owners have taken over, even came up and introduced himself as was told by staff I was a regular (felt very special).
The menu has been improved, absolutely huge serves and great variety. My boy and I ordered for entree a selection of homemade dips and fresh crusty bread and also the flaming Saganaki cheese. The head chef came out and poured ouzo over it and lit the cheese up on the plate, you should have seen everybody turn around, pretty cool.
Noticed the same friendly and knowledable staff there and they have a way of making you feel at home and really relaxed. Maybe the wine also made us feel like that too!!
For main we shared the spectacular paella for two and the fresh seafood was a real winner. Even loved the whole presentation and was really filling. Want to try the lamb shanks on mash next time, they looked fantastic.
Yes you guessed it, we ordered sweets. Went for our favourite, handmade choc filled spring rolls and sticky date puddin. Only complaint really is we probably should have had one sweet, as spring rolls really rich.
Overall, we had a great night, quite romantic with all the candles scattered around the place and I am looking forward to organising my 30th there is a few months. TOTALLY RECOMMEND.
Wild Oscars Response: Well its only been a few months since we took over the legendary Wild Oscar's and to see a review like this already is very encouraging.
Most of our regulars have commented on the improvement of the menu, the look of the place, but believe we have remained true to what everybody loves about the place.
Thanks heaps for your input and we are definately looking forward to sharing your 30th with you and many a more drinks along life's journey.
Cheers! This venue changed management in June, 2007. This venue changed head chef in December, 2006. Member Review by MullsySubmitted January, 2006 Wild Oscars. A local cafe, for which I have now awarded the most consistently worst place I have ever been to. And now thanks to FoodGod, I can officially share my experience with you, via this forum.
Over the last three years I've been to this place about 7 or 8 times. On at least 5 or 6 of these occasions I have vowed never to go back because of a combination of poor service, cold / bad coffee, disappointing food, buggering up the order or all of the above.
So why did I continually go back and give them a chance? Convenience, mainly. I also refuse to set foot into Gloria Jeans across the road.
Four of us turned up at around 1:50pm and snapped up the last table out the front. A couple of friends were due to visit a friend of theirs in hospital as she?d just had a baby, so as their time was precious, friend #1 went inside and grabbed four menus and brought them back out to us.
After the first ten minutes, we made a decision to go inside and order as we hadn?t seen anyone so far. Friend #1 was first in the door and as another guy arrived at the door the same time as I had, I chivalrously ushered him through the door before me. A flustered bloke took friend #1 order (2 breakfast specials, 1 latt? & 1 glass of sauvignon blanc ? Friend #2 doesn?t do coffee), then served the guy before me who was only paying for his meal.
Finally, I ordered? Chips & gravy for Friend #3, 2 poached eggs with a potato rosti, mushrooms and beans for me, plus 2 latt?s.
Me: "...oh, and we?re on the same table as the girl you served a couple of minutes ago."
Flustered Bloke: "Sorry, we?re out of rostis and I'll just let you know that your food will come out 10 minutes after your friend?s order."
Whilst I'm musing over the math on ordering no more than 2 minutes after friend #1, yet there now being a 10 minute delay between orders, with no other orders taken during this time, I'm suddenly distracted by Flustered Bloke banging the keys to the register.
Flustered Bloke: "Oh and now the computer?s stuck. Sorry. I?ll have to come out and take your order a in minute or two."
Fifteen minutes passed before Flustered Bloke finally graced us with his presence, so again I ordered.
Flustered Bloke: "Sorry, we?re no longer taking breakfast orders, I?ve only got one chef on and I?m down two waiting staff. You can order from the bistro, foccacia or tapas menu."
In haste and disappointment I ordered a tandoori foccacia with chips and salad.
After being there for 45 minutes, the drinks finally arrived.
Another 15 minutes later friend #3's chips arrived, 20 minutes after friend #1 & #2's order was taken.
The chips were cold and the gravy was lumpy.
Another 5 minutes later, friend #1 & #2's breakfasts arrived. friend #1's (cold) poached eggs were far too vinegary in flavour and resembled hard boiled eggs. The baby spinach was raw as opposed to the expected saut?ed version. It was also the first time I?ve seen lime used as a garnish... Interesting.
As you?d expect just as the three others were finishing, my foccacia arrived? with SECOND order of friend #3's chips, which we were immediately assured we would not be charged for. My foccacia had been thrown together and was missing both the tzatziki and relish, as promised in the menu. The salad consisted of two pieces of cos lettuce. Also, the combination of tandoori chicken with goats cheese was far too salty.
By this point I'd lost my appetite and we were unanimous in our decision that we could not leave this place quick enough. When friend #2 and I went to pay, another potential customer was informed by Flustered Bloke that they were (wisely, but too late for us) no longer taking food orders due to being short staffed. To top it off we then had to argue the fact we didn?t order two lots of chips and gravy.
Dear Wild Oscars,
Here?s some sage advice for the future (hmm, sage... incidentally, this makes a dire looking and pointless garnish for a bowl of chips); how about packing up some of your tables outside so you?ll still have customers. Sure you?ll have a reduced number of covers, which will limit your income but at least you?ll not be overwhelmed and you?ll keep your customers happy = they might just return one day.
Also, you might want to consider a contingency plan on the 2nd of January, taking into consideration that your staff *might* still be out after attending Summadayze on New Years Day.
Two simple tips that might save some credibility and you some customers.
Yours Sincerely - but never to return,
Mullsy
