Member Review by GarySubmitted December, 2005 A light - filled dining room with original paintings and crisp lines, just the place for a relaxing lunch. Bare wooden rustic style tables. The house sparkling burgundy a good starter. Looking out into High St Armadale is okay too.
First course, a terrine - these are usually a 'coarse pate.' This 'terrine' was mainly gelatine. Its name could have been 'jellied beans,' because the duck referred to in the title was scarcely present, with not even a taste of duck stock in the jelly. Why would someone go to so much trouble to jelly white beans, cabbage and some shreds of duck to make something so bland? The main was better, a delightful piece of pork rack, perfectly 'well cooked' with quality accompaniments, including a delicately spiced lentil sauce.
The lunch dessert menu comprised ice-cream, cheese or the one 'dessert,' a tart which did not appeal, so we left it at coffee. The coffee was excellent.
Some local business people wanted to let every one else know what a 'great old time' they were having, which detracted from the ambience as they got more revved up on their red.
The service was pleasant and effective. While we enjoyed our mains, I could not say we were overwhelmed with anything about 'Saucier.' The name of the restaurant produced an expectation of something a bit special. Having said that, lunch is a reasonable ask on price ($20-30-40 for one, two or three courses and a glass of wine).
A better entree and a different dessert choice might have got more cheers from us. In the balance, you can do a lot worse- if not worth accolades, worth a visit.
