Member Review by BBGSubmitted June, 2007 On the Friday night Dion was Very Friendly, busy, and a bit noisy, but not more so than many other restaurants. Perhaps a cosmopolitan flavour overall. The gentleman host was most welcoming, but the wait service was spotty from very good to average.
For starters, a nice saganaki - no bread - we did not follow up on whether it was missed or is only supplied on request. The saganaki itself was quite nice. Char-grilled octopus was also selected, and quite good; food is in the eye of the beholder - we both were impressed with the saganaki but I enjoyed the octopus far more than my partner, compared to that of other Greek restaurants. Dion had a very nice lemon sauce on each. For my tastes the lemon sauce is Very Well Done and one of the better ones around the city.
Mains included a chicken souvlaki platter and the house speciality, arni lemonado - a lemon juice and herb spiced lamb. The souvlaki was the expected char-grilled skewer of chicken and as good as any; on the other hand the arni lemonado was brilliantly tender and very tasty - recommended that at least one diner select it to share a few bites. Both were served with workmanlike roast potatoes in the Greek style, and salad.
For sweets, a galaktobouriko with two spoons and coffees, no worries with either.
Overall an enjoyable meal with some high points, although in the whole not specifically outstanding in the very highly competitive Melbourne market.
BYO wine only.
