Member Review by GarySubmitted November, 2009 For French food in Melbourne, this is it. Ingredients, dishes and attention to detail are excellent. The 'occasionally changing' seasonal menu has just changed - my Salmon Gravlax, and my partner's terrine, were both nearly as stunning as the confit duck... and the desserts were excellent too (a declining craft in many other locals!) The Brasserie is excellent for both quality and value.
The wine markups can be high but careful perusing of the list will yield some good value, both local and imported.
Lunch is excellent value if you go for the 2 or 3 course special. It can help to go early in the night or early in the week. The Brasserie can get very busy!
Always well preented with friendly and attentive staff, the Brasserie is definitely one of the best, most consistent kitchens in Melbourne, often with Philippe in his expert 'hands-on' role. Well recommended. Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Historical Review by GarySubmitted November, 2008 For French food in Melbourne, this is it. Ingredients, dishes and attention to detail are excellent. I know just about every dish and for entrees and mains, I have not been disappointed yet. A recent trip to Paris tells me we are lucky to have Mouchel's in Melbourne for quality and value.
Like everywhere in the Crown complex the wine markups can be high but careful perusing of the list will yield some good value, both local and imported. Desserts are a not quite as good as mains and starters.
