100% Please note: The reviews below are more than 12 months old. Member Review by BBGSubmitted July, 2006 The Feddish is at Fed Square, on a terrace along the Yarra. There is a large outside seating area and a modern inside. While making the booking they were concerned whether we were attending a show after dinner to ensure we would have no time issues.
On Sat and Sun they have afternoon blues and jazz groups, respectively. We arrived post entertainment time. We were promptly greeted and seated, given menus, but then felt pushed as they wanted to get a drink and wine order, and as soon as they had that, pushed for the dinner order. That was the only negative of the night. Once they had the orders service was briilliantly unobtrusive and on the mark, so whilst irritated about the first moments, they were quickly forgiven.
We were advised we had the last bottle of Pasing Clouds merlot, so if we might want a second bottle please be aware.
Posted on the interenet the ala carte menu is relatively brief, but covers all the bases. In our family party of 3, each had a taste or two of the others meals. We enjoyed a grilled swordfish with rosemary potatoes with bok choy and a saffron sauce - tasty but a bit dry, stingy on the sauces; a rump steak with rosemary potatos and green beans - workmanlike with the excellent green beans being shared around, and an eye fillet with vegetable stack - by far the standout and cooked to perfection.
For sweets we had the strawberry and chantille sauce and banana tart w/ice cream. Both were excellent, and the coffees good.
The venue would be special in daylight hours on a pleasant day, and it was dark and raining on the night. Taken simply as a restaurant the Feddish is good but unremarkable based on dinner - excepting the excellent eye fillet, but including the venue in total, gets higher marks for a pleasant experience.
